Ingredients
- 3 c flour
- 1/2 c butter, soft
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 c shortening, soft
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 1/4 c brown sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1 1/2 c buttermilk (add 1 tsp vinegar to 2% milk)
- 1/2 tsp cloves
- 1/2 tsp allspice
Directions
- Preheat Oven to 350
- Cream butter and shortening. Add sugar and mix thoroughly. Add eggs one at time and mix until fluffy.
- Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk in 4-5 portion beginning with flour and ending with flour.
- Turn into pans and bake.
- Frost with rum butter icing.
