Grandma Damer’s recipe – great for roll out cookies or making Gingerbread houses
- 5 – 5 1/2 cups White Flour
- 1tsp. Baking soda
- 1 tsp. Salt
- 2 tsp. Ginger
- 2 tsp. Cinnamon
- 1 tsp. Nutmeg
- 1 tsp. Cloves
- 1 cup. Shortening
- 1 1/4 cup. Molasses
- 2. Eggs, beaten
- Preheat Oven to 375
- Thoroughly mix flour, soda, salt and spices.
- Melt shortening in large saucepan.
- Add sugar, molasses and eggs. Mix well. Cool slightly, and then add 4 cups dry ingredients and mix well.
- Turn mixture onto lightly floured surface. Knead in remaining dry ingredients by hand.
- Roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut out pieces with cutters.
- Place on greased cookie sheets.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes depending on the size of the cookies.
- Let cool on pan for a few minutes before removing to rack to cool thoroughly.
